Friendships have their highs and lows. There are friendships that fade away with the years, or remain as strong as the very first day you have offered the next seat to a new classmate whose family just arrived in town. If your best friends are going to stand by you on your wedding day, talk the matter with your bride-to-be and give groomsmen gifts top priority in the shopping list.

Grade School Chums to Groomsmen

Your chums have now drifted to start their professional lives. What better way to regroup the old gang but on your own wedding? Of course, you have already singled out your best man. He’s the guy who offered you his hankie when you were down and cheered you up through the job-hunting episode of your life. He’s also the guy who introduced you to your bride-to-be, so reward him with the honor and the choicest of groomsmen gifts your money can buy.

As for the other members of the gang, show them how much you value their friendship by persistently reminding them that they should be there on D-Day. You should give them ample time to prepare for the wedding. They have to get approved leaves of absence from work and go hunting for tuxedos to rent. Just like you, they will be shopping for a wedding gift with the same diligence given to groomsmen gifts shopping.

The pleasure of seeing your old and dearest friends again on your special day is just another of those thrilling expectations. Map out the pre- and post wedding activities to make up for lost time and give your bride and your friends the chance get to know each other. If the guys are married, let them bring their wives along for a jollier and more meaningful reunion.

For Men Only

Upon their arrival, give them the space in the loft or in your old room where you used to hang around and ask mom to prepare a big meal for the boys, knowing their appetites and their predilection to your mom’s apple pies and thick ham sandwiches.

If the boys are new to their role as groomsmen, discuss the modus operandi with them and send them on their way to make things easier for you. When there’s a lull between preparations, have a couple of cold beers in the front lawn – and expect all those old jokes and memories to crop up.

Your bride will understand this because she too has her set of friends and she’ll be spending some time with them – discussing their gowns, make-up, and all the little things that girls can discuss for hours.

Just make sure you have the groomsmen gifts all ready. Anyway, you know your friends well enough to have made the selections ahead of time, and you want to spend more fun time with them before tie the knot.

Gift to Last and Friendships to Cherish

Here are some groomsmen gifts to choose for your best friends: Zippo lighters for the collector, Cross pen sets, sport pocket watches, designer cufflinks, and wristwatches. You are not having a platoon of groomsmen, so splurge on your groomsmen gifts. Add a special touch by having the gifts engraved with your gang password or a special message from you and your bride.

Give the groomsmen gifts during an intimate party just for your friends. It is just fitting to cap the big day with a private party for the guys you’ve missed a lot. They’ll take the cue and appreciate your thoughtfulness. Like you, they will all be looking towards the future. That’s how groomsmen gifts show how friends are valued.

Know what you like.

The only way to do this is to look at lots of art. You can look in your phone book or do a Google search for art galleries in your area. Devote a Saturday or two to go gallery-hopping with absolutely no intention to buy. Spend some time browsing on art-related websites. Read some books about art. You don’t need a degree in art history to figure out what kinds of art you are attracted to. Write down the names of any artists you really like.

Join art communities.

This is simpler than it sounds. Get on the mailing lists of local galleries so you get invited to art openings. Subscribe to the mailing lists and blogs of artists that you like. Read and post on art forums online. Talk to artists. When you see art on someone’s wall, express your curiosity. Lots of people out there are into art. Find the people who like what you like! Doing this will help you learn more about any topic that interests you, and art is no exception.

Determine your art budget.

You may have to look at your finances to figure out how much you can afford to spend on art. Try to get a dollar amount. For some people it might be only $100/year, for others it might be $10,000. Don’t be discouraged if your art budget is small—it is possible to find something you love in any price range. (If your budget is small, consider buying a small piece, a print or a reproduction to start your collection.) At this point you’ll start to get excited about the possibilities, but you shouldn’t necessarily buy the first thing you see.

Make a plan.

I read somewhere that all you need to do to become an art collector is to buy one piece of art once a year—perhaps on your birthday or wedding anniversary as a gift to yourself. Start small. You build a collection one piece at a time. Spend some time thinking about what kind of art you’d like to hang in your home, and how the different pieces will go together. Your collection is yours alone and can be anything you want it to be. You can decide to collect a particular theme, style, or genre of art, but you don’t have to.

Buy from serious artists.

It is okay to buy work from a young artist or an artist who doesn’t yet have many credentials. Emerging artists tend to have lower prices, and it is exciting to seek them out. Of course your first consideration should always be that you love the work. But you should also ask yourself, “Is this a serious artist?” Questions to ask might include:

* How many years have they been working?

* Have they received university-level art training?

* Do they show in galleries?

* Have they won any awards?

* Do they have a website?

* Has their name been mentioned in any press?

* Do they have a recognizable style?

* Are they serious about their craft and technically proficient?

* Have they sold a lot of artwork?

An artist certainly does not have to meet all of these criteria, but it should be clear to you that the artist is serious about his or her work. This will not only protect your long-term investment, but it will also give you the pleasure of following the artist’s career over the years and knowing you are a part of it.

There certainly is a massive amount of differing opinion out there right now in regard to cash gifting – or cash leveraging as it is also known.

I don’t want to be repeating to any large extent what others have had to say, so what I’ll try to do here is offer a different slant on the whole topic of cash gifting.

It seems to me that the majority of us are definitely “OK” with the idea of giving cash gifts to family members, sometimes in very large amounts. We give this money because we KNOW these people well. After all, they’re family, right? And they want to put a deposit on a house, or buy a business, or pay for a wedding. All very good reasons for cash gifts to pass between family members. In most cases all goes well, the gift is appreciated and used wisely. But in some cases it all goes wrong:- the payments on the house fall into arrears and the house comes up for a mortgagee sale; the business goes broke and shuts it’s doors owing thousands of dollars; the marriage breaks up after only a few short months, etc. And nine times out of ten the person who so freely gave the money now starts complaining about how the gift of money was misused! But that’s all OK! NOBODY is screaming “scam” here! It’s family after all!

Moving right along. How many times do we willingly give money to total strangers who are, for example, standing outside the supermarket with a bucket and a placard proclaiming the name of the charity they’re collecting for? Hmmm? We all do it or have done it! Do we question the collectors to any degree? Do we ask to see their official credentials? Do they even carry official credentials? Do we ask what percentage of the collected money actually reaches the “end” recipient? I understand that statistics have proven that, in these cases, as genuine as they are, the actual percentage of cash that makes it through to the end recipient is very small. The majority of the money is used for administration, advertising, travelling, etc, etc. Yet, hark! STILL nobody screaming “scam”! It’s charity after all!

Now let’s take a look at Lotto and the like. Many of us (I accept, not all of us) buy Lotto tickets from time to time. We knowingly give money to buy a slip of paper with some numbers written on it that we will chuck in the rubbish bin come tomorrow morning after the draw! We’re adults, right? So we’re well aware of the fact that we’ve got a better chance of hitching a ride on the next spaceship to the moon than winning the Lotto! The odds are sooooo stacked against our winning! There can BE only one first prize winner! And who do we think pays the winner? Well, we do, don’t we, via all those millions of tickets that were sold! Many of these Lottos are run by our country’s government, so we accept that they’re “legal”, right? Still nobody screaming “scam”!

OK. How about birthdays, Christmas and the like? In my own case I have 17 grandchildren ranging in ages from 18 months to 20 years. I have no idea what to buy the older ones – I’m BOUND to get it wrong! So I give them cash. There are no conditions on how they spend it. Maybe some of you do this too. Nobody has ever told me that it’s “illegal” for me to do this! Give cash!!

So by now you’ll be getting my drift. Plainly, it is NOT illegal for us to give our own cash to whomsoever we wish, whether we know them or not. We can give whatever amount we so please, for whatever reason we so please. As I’ve already pointed out in the earlier paragraphs, we do not necessarily need to receive a product when we choose to give cash. What’s more, it will never be illegal for us to do whatsoever we wish with our own cash!

But mention giving cash in the terms “cash gifting” or “cash leveraging” and you open a floodgate of controversy! There is no doubt that we could argue the point for hours on end about this, and all hold viewpoints which differ to one degree or another. I suggest here that the do-gooders who scream “scam” have probably, in some cases, allowed themselves to be taken in by some scheme or another somewhere along life’s path. AND lost rather large amounts of money! Consequently they have felt ashamed and humiliated. They believe that their friends and families will see them as gullible and stupid, therefore they need to apportion blame – NEVER do they see themselves as having to take responsibility for their own actions and free choices. These types of people will go on to criticise other “happenings” in both their own lives and the lives of others, and there’s not much we can do to help them! They see themselves as victims and that’s probably the way they’ll stay!

I do believe that there ARE people who DO lose their shirts in one scheme or another. However, how often do we find, once the facts are uncovered, that the amount they have lost is HUGE!! My question to these people is:- “What on EARTH possessed you to put up such a large stake?” And so GREED raises it’s ugly head!

So let’s move along to those cash gifting systems and cash leveraging programs. Right now the internet is full of them! Obviously, some are better than others. Some of them are going to be around for years – in fact some of them have already been around for years – one as long as fourteen years. Some of them will fall by the wayside, just as is the case with all manner of other businesses out there. Some make the grade, some do not. Fact!

To those of you looking into cash leveraging systems or cash gifting programs, here are a few rules of thumb for you to follow. Always do your due diligence! The obvious ones, for example, are does the company have a real physical street address, not just a post office box number? Does the given phone number actually get answered? Go on, call them! A short call will cost you no more than a few dollars and could wind up saving you a fortune! Does their website have a professional look? Do they provide comprehensive information on the site? Is the site easy to navigate? Does it load quickly? If you email them, do they reply promptly, courteously and helpfully?

Ideally any cash leveraging system or cash gifting program should provide you with a replicated website free of charge. If there is a monthly fee – needed to maintain the website and provide back office support – then it should not be unreasonable. To my mind a reasonable monthly figure should be somewhere around $60. If the cash gifting program offers other services, such as co-operative advertising, then these should be optional and once again, reasonably priced. If there are different financial levels at which you can become involved, then I respectfully suggest that you enter at the LOWEST level on offer! You will be able to upgrade at any stage. Most cash gifting programs offer entry levels as low as around $100, right on up to around $5,000. Start at $100 and don’t be greedy! You will need to learn the ropes; learn to crawl before you can walk. The cash leveraging system that you have chosen should also provide you with extensive and intensive training, plus tools to help you along your path to financial freedom.

You WILL need to do plenty of work! Cash leverage is NOT the lazy man’s path to riches! Make no mistake, the most important task in your cash gifting venture is to MARKET your cash leveraging system. So what I’m saying here is that once you have chosen a good program, you will need to learn HOW to market it, then you will need to ACTUALLY market it! Every day! For at least three hours a day! Maybe for the next month or two! Using multiple advertising strategies! It will be no good your joining a community, then sit around doing nothing, and then whinge on that you’ve been “scammed” when you don’t succeed!

Whatever decision you make about whether or not to become involved in cash gifting or cash leveraging,I wish you success.
